Summary Of Much Ado About Nothing Act 1

Synopsis: The army of Don Pedro of Aragon arrives in Messina and is welcomed by Leonato, Messina’s governor. Benedick of Padua, a soldier in Don Pedro’s army, proclaims his enmity to love and engages in a skirmish of wits with Leonato’s niece, Beatrice.
Analysis Leonato’s brother Antonio meets him in the garden, and tells him that one of his men has overheard something interesting: that Don Pedro is in love with Hero, and intends to propose that night at the dance. Leonato is suspicious of the news, and decides not to take it too seriously before it happens.
